HRDO, DPO tie up for Data Privacy Webinar

The webinar Sigurado, Pribado, at Protektado: Data Privacy in Alternative Work Arrangements has recently been concluded last October 21 and 28, with over 600 administrative and REPS staff joining the two-day web-based lecture and live discussion via Zoom. The webinar was presented by the Human Resource Development Office (HRDO), in partnership with the Diliman Data Protection Office (DPO).

Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo and Vice Chancellor Adeline Pacia gave their messages to the UP community about the importance of data privacy and protection.


Ms. Hazel Meking opened with a discussion on the data privacy act, while Mr. RJ Jimenez performed his acoustic songs during the break.


DPO Data Privacy Resource and Supervisor Ms. Hazel Meking, J.D. discussed the data privacy act in the new normal, while DPO Legal Officer Atty. Regine Estillore discussed the organizational and physical security of information in a work-from-home setting. Meanwhile, Management and Audit Officer Mr. Michael Laxina, C.P.A. introduced to the community the revamped DPO web portal which provides access to the information security issuances and advisory opinion of the office. Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo and Vice Chancellor Adeline Pacia also welcomed the participants and reinforced the importance of data privacy and protection within the UP community.

Atty. Regine Estillore led the second session with a discussion on processing personal information, while Mr. Michael Laxina unveiled the DPO's new website.


In addition to the lectures provided by the resource speakers, attendees were also able to participate in live poll questions and send their queries during the Q&A portion. A surprise performance by acoustic singer Mr. RJ Jimenez also delighted the UPD employees during the short program break. The program was wrapped up with participants from different offices sharing their insights during the synthesis portion. HRDBD Chief Leizel Lectura comprehensively captured the significant details from the management side and the lectures delivered by the Data Protection Office.


358 employees have participated in Day 1, while 378 have taken part in the webinar in Day 2. Employees who have finished their post-program evaluation will also be receiving their certificate of participation via email.
