The UP Diliman Human Resource Development Office (HRDO) in partnership with the UP Office of the Vice President for Administration (OVPA) had conducted the Diliman run of the LINANG: Mga Serye ng Pagsasanay para sa Pagpapaunlad ng Paglilingkod sa Pamantasan at Bayan, on November 5, 7, 12, 13, 15 and 26.
The program represents a strategic professional development initiative conceived by the University of the Philippines to systematically enhance organizational effectiveness and individual professional capabilities. Anchored in the university's foundation of "Honor and Excellence in the Service of the Nation," this comprehensive series of sessions is methodically structured across three critical intervention modules designed to address key organizational development imperatives. The first run of LINANG in UP Diliman focused on developing 39 trainers and advocates. Several experts from OVPA and UPD were invited to share their expertise in different provided modules.
The first series, the Relationship Operations and Sensitivity Enhancement Seminar (ROSES) was provided by UP System OVPA’s Assistant Vice President Richard Javier. The series focuses on developing sophisticated interpersonal competencies through targeted emotional intelligence and communication skill enhancement. The subsequent Work Attitude and Value Enhancement Seminar (WAVES) shared by UP System OVPA’s Assistant Vice President Tiffany Tan, aims to cultivate a unified organizational culture by aligning individual professional perspectives with the institution's vision and strategic objectives. The concluding Completed Staff Work (CSW) session provided by Mr. Pepito Dizon of the UP System OVPA provides participants with advanced analytical frameworks for quality decision-making, enabling more effective organizational problem-solving and strategic recommendation processes. The participants were also able to garner significant skills for communications and facilitation through the Facilitation Skills Training (FST) provided by Diliman Information Office’s Deputy Director, Prof. MJ Sumilong.
Before officially concluding the program, two prominent names in leadership and governance imparted their knowledge and expertise to the participants. The current Dean of the Development Academy of the Philippines' Graduate School of Public and Development Management, Dr. Lizan E. Perante-Calina, introduced the concept of phronetic leadership, a sophisticated approach that emphasizes practical wisdom. She asserted that this leadership model demands a holistic and dynamic approach to knowledge and action. Furthermore, the 13th Dean of UP Diliman College of Home Economics, Dr. Aurorita T. Roldan, articulated a transformative understanding of genuine leadership that goes beyond formal titles and positions. She emphasized that true leadership is an intrinsic quality that emerges from within an individual, which reframes leadership as a deeply personal journey of self-discovery and development.
By addressing these key areas, LINANG aims to create a more cohesive, skilled, and mission-driven workplace. It also aims to improve both individual skills and overall organizational performance. By focusing on professional development from multiple angles, the program helps create a workplace that is more adaptable, productive, and aligned with the institution's core mission. Its comprehensive approach recognizes that employee growth, team interactions, and organizational goals are closely linked, ultimately fostering a more effective and cohesive work environment.
