Promoting Employee Wellness: Integrating Wellness into the Workday

In line with the Civil Service Commission Memorandum Circular on "Physical and Mental Fitness Program for Government Personnel" (MC No. 38, s. 1992), the Human Resource Development Office has launched the "Weaving Wellness into the Workday" program. This initiative tackles the issues of long hours and sedentary work that often plague government employees, leading to posture problems, fatigue, and stress—factors that can detrimentally affect productivity, job satisfaction, and overall health.

The program, held on May 3rd from 1 PM to 5 PM, was a resounding success. A total of 118 employees took part, with 78 attending the in-person session at Bonifacio Auditorium, School of Labor and Industrial Relations, and an additional 40 joining via Facebook livestream. The event featured expert insights from Asst. Professor Christian Wisdom Valleser of the College of Human Kinetics, who provided guidance on effective exercise planning, and Department Chair Sabrina Laya Gacad of the College of Social Work and Community Development, who conducted a chair yoga session. Participants engaged actively, sharing their own exercise plans and experiences with the group.

Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. They expressed appreciation to the organizing committee and the resource speakers for delivering a valuable and practical program. Participants left with actionable strategies to incorporate personalized exercise routines into their workdays, aiming to enhance their well-being.

The Human Resource Development Office extends its sincere thanks to all participants and the School of Labor and Industrial Relations for hosting the event. Future wellness initiatives are in the pipeline, aiming to further the journey towards holistic well-being through body and mind conditioning, ultimately enhancing the performance of government personnel.
